Hello and welcome to the first Gather Kitchen Deli blog post! For those of you who don’t know us, we are a friendly kitchen deli in Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland. You enter through our shop which is packed to the rafters with delicious local produce including fruit & vegetables, artisan cheeses and store cupboard essentials. Around the corner is our café serving freshly made, seasonal food and amazing coffee. We are proud to be a dog friendly business – providing water, treats, cuddles and attention for your four legged friends!
We try our best to cater for everyone, including gluten free, vegan and vegetarian lifestyles. Breakfast dishes include buckwheat pancakes, poached eggs, chunky bacon & black pudding from Ewarts the butcher along the road, porridge and granola trifle. At lunch time you can expect hearty soups, frittatas, shakshuka, baked potatoes, sandwiches and more! In June 2017 we moved to our new location at 25-27 Dundee Street, Carnoustie. The current premises used to be a carpet and upholstery shop and before that it was a pharmacy. If anyone knows further back in its history please share with us, we would love to know more! Once we moved in the artificial walls and ceilings were removed to let the original features shine through.
The coffee machine used in Gather, Carnoustie, is a Fiorenzato lever machine meaning each individual cup of coffee is made under carefully controlled pressure, timing, accuracy and love – no mindless button pushing! We are very passionate about coffee, selecting seasonal beans from Sacred Grounds Coffee Company in Arbroath. Our coffee can be made with dairy, soya, almond, coconut and oat milk We have a mouth watering selection of sweet treats which are all made in our little kitchen, including freshly baked muffins, carrot & courgette cake, victoria sponge and granola bars. We offer table service with a variety of seating options ranging from the cosy sofa, smaller tables for 2, 4 & 6, bar seating at the window to a large table which can seat 10.
Past events at Gather have included our sell out Gin and Beer Tasting Evenings, Puppy & Prosecco nights, late night opening for the Open Golf Championship, Meet the Maker (introducing you to some of our local suppliers), Christmas Shopping Evening and Taste of Gather (an evening with lots of lovely seasonal samples).
We are hoping to use this new blog to let you know more about what’s going on in Gather, showcase some of our local suppliers, share recipe ideas & food inspiration and lots more! Please share any ideas for future blog post subjects and any other comments below. Until next time …
